About VAULT®
From garage cabinets to flooring and lights to doors - the birth of our custom garage systems.
The idea for VAULT® was born of frustration. The company’s founder, Chad Haas, was looking to outfit his new garage. He searched diligently, but in vain, for high quality furnishings, storage systems and accessories.
Although many new garage products promised a solution, so much of what was available couldn’t live up to the performance that had been advertised, such as the epoxy floor coating that looked great in his own garage, until the paint peeled up, despite having been installed only a few years prior.
Great design and fine craftsmanship was even harder to find. Haas spent countless hours socializing with other enthusiasts in their garages, at car shows and car clubs with the hope of unearthing a unique solution, but only found there were a lot of people with a similar need. He finally hired a professional designer, but unfortunately, these efforts were also fruitless, highlighting an industry that had not offered any major innovations or improvements for decades: Tool storage has not substantially changed for 50 years and most of the cabinetry marketed for garages is basically closet cabinets that have been modified slightly.
Driven by a fierce desire to attain higher quality and a better solution, Haas left the security of his job as a sales and marketing executive to pursue his dream. Tapping into what he felt was an unmet need, he founded VAULT® with the simple mission to bring impeccable design and quality to the garage.
Bootstrapping the company from its very beginning, Haas put his own personal savings and a small business loan into action. A year of product research and development arrived at a hybrid design that combined the functionality of cabinetry with the performance of a professional tool chest, packaged into a handsome design for home garage use. His efforts resulted in the creation of an entirely new category of professional furnishings designed exclusively for the luxury showroom garage.
When word spread of this new design, one customer placed an order for a full-line of cabinets before the first prototype had even been built. Not willing to settle for anything less than the very best, the satisfied client asked VAULT® to outfit the rest of the garage. The company had to look outside the industry to the best the world had to offer, but furnished a complete custom garage makeover with an industrial floor coating, stainless slatwalls and period-authentic signs.
It was at this very moment that Haas realized that there would be other clients, just like the first, that would value the same exceptional design, performance and craftsmanship from VAULT® across broader, yet relevant, products. As a result, the company broadened its product offerings to include carriage-style doors, flooring products, wall treatments and period furnishings – to put it more succinctly, everything needed to outfit the custom dream garage showroom.
